Outdoors notebook: Time has come for hunters to keep score

Trophy status can be put into numbers this coming Saturday. While every clean kill can be considered a personal prize, official scoring records require the game animal’s horns, antlers or skull has dried and cured for at least 60 days before it can be measured for record status.

Outdoors notebook: Acorn crop favorable for black bears

A generation ago black bears were a rare sight in Pennsylvania. Today they're another of the state's wildlife success stories, rebounding to an estimated population of 18,000. With a good acorn crop in much of the state and some large bears taken last year, the Game Commission anticipates a robust harvest in the coming seasons.
