Outdoors report: Jan. 4

Trout have been scattered, but best catches have come on the incoming tide adjacent to deep channels and ICW. Crappie action has picked up on area lakes. Cold water temps have bass holding deep and best on large black worms Ducks like it, but not hunters, as every low-lying field is a potential pond for puddle ducks like pintails and teal.

Outdoors notebook: Trappers seminar scheduled

With winter temperatures dropping and warmer clothing needed while outdoors, expert members of the Erie County Trappers Association will be offering an informative Fur Handling Seminar at the Collins Conservation Club on Conger Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
