HR&G reported trout to 29 inches on soft plastics worked over shell. Catfish are good on stinkbaits and chicken livers in the river channel.Matagorda Guide Tommy Alexander reported limits of trout and scattered redfish on Norton Sand Shad while wading over sand and grass.

Be aware of daylight saving when enjoying the outdoors

Easter weekend is a popular time for New Zealanders to get out and enjoy everything our great outdoors has to offer. As part of preparation for outdoor adventures, the New Zealand Mountain Safety Council (MSC) recommends planning for reduced daylight and changeable autumn weather.

Outdoors report: March 14

Guide James Plaag of Silver King Adventures reported trout to 7.8 pounds on Slammin' Chicken Bass Assassins and pearl Corkies. Guide Michael Rolf reported steady catches of trout and scattered redfish while drifting with live shrimp. White bass action has been good, though recent rains have muddied rivers and creeks and stalled action a bit.

Minneapolis, St. Paul team up with feds to get kids into the outdoors

More Twin Cities kids will get a chance to explore the outdoors and learn about the national park system this summer, as Minneapolis and St. Paul join a short list of cities in a new program with the federal agency that manages public land.
